General Monitor Info and Location

There is a media kit with a 29" display monitor and mini-media player available for outreach events.  The monitor can attract people to our booths/displays with great pictures and provide information if our MGs are busy talking with other visitors.  The monitor can play photos and videos, or you can use the monitor to share your computer screen for a presentation.  There is a standard set of photos that is preloaded on the monitor to be ready to go at a moment’s notice, or you can develop your own presentation.  Some of the preloaded slides have QR codes so a person can pull out their smart phone take a picture of the QR code and go directly to our website or save it for later.

The kit consists of a 29” Sceptre monitor with mini media player in a gray protective carry tote. The entire kit weighs in under 12 lbs, and the carry tote has a shoulder strap for easy toting from/to the event.  The kit is stored at the WSU Extension Building in Alex’s office in a tan storage cabinet behind Alex's desk.  The key to the cabinet hangs on the bulletin board next to Alex’s desk.

Sceptre Monitor Setup Instructions

Instructions for the 28” Sceptre Monitor Kit 1

Notes:

  • The monitor kit is contained in a gray soft side tote bag.
  • It is helpful to have one person read the instructions and another person do the setup.

Inventory

Before checking out the monitor kit, complete an inventory.  Make sure the following items are present inside the gray tote bag.  Except for the towel and the carry bag, the items are numbered with small white labels.

  • 28” flat screen Sceptre brand monitor (label 1)
  • 1 orange towel
  • 1 Yofi brand black fold up Media bag (label 3) containing:
    • 1 round black monitor stand (label 4)
    • 1 black base monitor base (label 5)
    • 1 black 15’ long extension cord with 3 outlets and 2 USB port chargers (label 2)
    • 2 power adapters (label 6 and 7)
    • 1 HDMI cable (label 8) with purple and yellow tag
    • 1 blue media player (label 9)
    • 1 SD memory card (label 10) inserted into the media player
    • 1 remote control (label 11)

Set up the monitor for use with the media player

Do not plug anything into an electric outlet until everything is hooked up!

  1. First remove the media bag and orange towel from the gray tote.
  2. Spread the towel out on a flat surface. Remove the monitor from the case and lay it face down on the towel for assembly.  It is easiest to install the base and connect the cables while the monitor is face down in order to best see the connections.
  3. Connect the stand (4) and the base (5) together.
  4. Slide the base into the monitor. You will feel a click when it is seated.
  5. Insert the monitor’s power cord (6) into the monitor. Match red to red.  Do not plug into power yet.
  6. Insert the media player’s ac power cord (7) into the blue media player (9). Do not plug into power yet.
  7. Verify that the SD memory card (10) is inserted into the media player. Match pink to pink.
  8. Insert the purple end of the HDMI cable (8) into the media player matching purple to purple
  9. Insert the yellow end of the HDMI cable into the HDMI 1 slot of the monitor. Match yellow to yellow.
  10. Set the monitor upright in its display location.
  11. Attach the blue media player to the base of the monitor using the piece of Velcro. Match purple to purple.
  12. Attach the remote (11) to the other piece of Velcro on the base of the monitor so it isn’t misplaced.
  13. Plug the two power adapters (6 and 7) into the extension cord (2)
  14. Plug the extension cord into power. After a few seconds the slide show should start automatically.
  15. The angle of the monitor can be adjusted with gentle pressure to the proper viewing angle.

Using the monitor with the media player

  • Normally the media player will just start playing the slide show as soon as everything is powered on.
  • You can use the remote to pause the slide show. Use the buttons on the right and left of the wheel (doughnut) part of the remote to advance the slides.
  • If the remote does not work, it is likely that the diode in the remote is not making a line of sight connection with the diode on the media player. Readjust the placement of the medial player on the base of the monitor.
  • When playing, the advance speed for the slides is normally set to 30 seconds. If you want to change the speed, press the OSD button on the remote for options.
  • If the slide show does not start automatically, press the button on the remote with the camera symbol. Then click on the icon with the camera, then on Smart Card.  It will show you SCMG_Card, click on that folder, and then any slide to begin the show.

Breakdown

  1. Turn off power by unplugging the extension cord.
  2. Remove all cords/parts and put them back into the media bag.
  3. Lay the towel on flat surface, and place monitor facing down onto the towel.
  4. Remove the stand by pushing a little tab that is located near where the base is connects to the monitor. It has a piece a green tape on it.  Press it down (toward the face of the monitor) and pull the base from the monitor.  It should slide out easily.
  5. Remove the base from the stand.
  6. Return all the parts back to the kit.
